Quiet Hill Top Retreat - Topmast Motel
This hotel overlooks the harbour, allowing great views. The hotel itself is only average at best and was an old motel in appearance. Our room was a "suite". It appeared that it had been an add-on from years back. When first arriving I attempted to turn on the air conditioner, but there was no thermostat. I walked back down to the office and was told that the hotel did not have air conditioning. "Just open the doors and windows and it will cool down" This might been fine, but it was in the 80's. The room did not cool down until about 10 PM! There was an oscillating fan in the bedroom, but it was of little help. I attempted to turn on the ceiling fan in the Livingroom, but could not find the light switch. Again, another trip down to the office. The Manager returned. She stated that she had lived in this unit for 6 months. However, she could not locate the switch until after about 5 of searching. The switch was in the kitchen! She turned the fan on, but the light in the adjacent Dining Room also lit up. The switch controlled BOTH fixtures!! The only way to have only the fan running required me to loosen the bulbs in the Dining Room ceiling light! Or leave the light on all night, or have no air circulation. The room seemed to be an add-on performed by a semi-skilled "Do It Yourselfer"!! Either the Building Codes here are pretty lax, or the add-on was never inspected. The room served the purpose, but it was extremely over-priced for what we received! My advice would be to look elsewhere for lodging.Room Tip: Look elsewhere!
