SHEA, Robert Charles 78, of Hanover and Mission Hill passed away on April 3, 2017, at South Shore Hospital in the company of his family. Son of Charles and Margaret Shea, he lived in Hanover for most of his adult life after growing up in Mission Hill. Bob was a graduate of Mission High School and Boston College, and received his Master's in Education from Boston State College. He began his professional career in the financial industry before becoming an educator. He served the City of Boston for more than 30 years, mainly at Dorchester High School. There he taught computers, distributive education and was a Varsity Soccer Coach. After taking an early retirement he briefly served as a tax professional in Dorchester, supported his wife Elaine in Real Estate before being elected in 2001 to the Hanover Town Clerk; he served in that position for 12 years and retired in 2013. He enjoyed serving the community as Town Clerk and left office as greatly beloved by his co-workers and the community. His true passion was serving multiple volunteer roles in Hanover. He was very active in youth sports as a coach of his sons, Chris and Matt, in basketball, soccer and baseball. He was instrumental in starting the Hanover Youth Soccer program for under 8-year-olds, was on the leadership for Hanover Youth Athletic Association, CYO basketball and travel baseball and soccer teams. He also assisted his sons with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. After the children left, he became very active in the Lions Club, served on the Hanover Board of Assessors and Park and Recreation Committee. Bob was also known to many as "Santa", which was one of his favorite personas. He served the Massachusetts State Police and the Cardinal Cushing Center in Hanover for many years bringing the students to visit the New England Patriots and Boston Bruins. He also volunteered in Hanover at multiple functions annually to support multiple charities as Santa. An addition to these activities he greatly enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. He loved to spend time with family and friends on the family boat and visiting Florida annually amongst other trips. Some of his favorite trips were taking cruises with Elaine and friends. Bob is survived by his loving wife Elaine, his son Chris and his wife Cherie with granddaughter Aurora and son Matt and granddaughter Odessa. The youngest of six siblings in the Shea clan, Bob was the last surviving member. His siblings included Dorothy Shack, Gladys Healy, Marie Blaisdell, Charles "Bud" Shea, and Lorraine Silvestre.In lieu of flowers, a donation in Bob's memory may be made to the Hanover Permanent Scholarship Fund in the name of Robert Shea. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 10 AM at St. Mary's Church, 392 Hanover Street, Hanover, MA. Burial to follow at Hanover Center Cemetery.
